Second
Generation CWC Member I purchased my new
1975 Teal GL1000 Gold Wing on April 27, 1975 from Lew's Cycle Ranch in
Columbus, Ohio. At the time I
was stationed at Rickenbacker Air Force Base.
My first wife of 17 years and I divorced on January 10, 1979. The only thing I received from the divorce was my '75 Gold
Wing. The same year Rickenbacker AFB closed and I was reassigned to Beale
AFB located in Marysvill, California.
The Gold Wing had approximately 12,000 miles on the odometer. Since the Air Force wouldn't pay to transport my Gold Wing to
the new base I purchased a motorcycle trailer and towed it out to
California myself. In the 18
months I spent stationed at Beale AFB I put another 12,000 miles on the
odometer. This included rides
up SR 9 through gold mining country, up highway 101 to the Red Wood
National Park and down interstate 80 to San Francisco.
When
I retired from the AF in December of 1980 I towed my Gold Wing back to
Maryland. The Wing had 25k
miles showing on the odometer. I have done much in the way of chrome
plating and polished aluminum. I've
replaced all nuts, bolts, washers, springs, clevis pins, cotter pins that
were tarnished with OEM parts. I
replaced and/or rebuilt all brake calipers, master cylinders - plus brake
disc's and brake lines. In
May of 1993 I was in the process of chrome plating all of the polished
aluminum parts of the GW, but was unfortunately unable to complete the
task. I was climbing a ladder
to clean the gutters when the ladder "kicked out" and I feel 25
feet to the ground and broke both legs.
The motorcycle set for a long time because of my injuries.
It was Gus Fabian, a friend and CWC member that I met while
stationed at Beale AFB who was responsible for helping me reassemble my
Gold Wing. I have been riding
bikes for over 38+ years. I now pass down to my son, Charles F. Wallace III, the
Classic, my 1975 GL1000 Gold Wing along with my Classic Wing Club
Membership #255. Please
welcome my son Charlie into the Classic Wing Club as the 1st
Second-Generation Classic Wing Club Member.
Ride
Safe!

Wallace III (a.k.a. Chuck) I started riding when
I was eight years old back in 1970. My
first bike my dad bought for me was a 5-hp Rupp mini-bike. Then in 1972 I
graduated to a Honda SL-70 mini-trail, this was my first encounter with
having to operate a clutch. My fingers would not open wide enough to let
the clutch engage so I ended up letting it snap at the end.
This caused the bike to do a wheel stand - I fell off quite a few
times before I could do the wheel stand and stay on.
When I turned 12 my Dad purchased me a XL75 Honda, all the bikes
were purchased from Lew's where he bought his '75 GL1000. A couple of years later I moved up to a MR-175 Enduro.
Motorcycles have always been a huge part of my life.
I currently own five motorcycles.
Two 1991 KTM 300 dirt bikes that I race in Hare Scrambles and
Enduro Competitions. One 1993
YZ-250 Yamaha and a 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 that I have owned since new.
My favorite one of all is a 1975 Honda GL1000 Gold Wing that I
purchased from my Dad. He
bought this motorcycle new in 1975 and has kept it in pristine condition
all these years. This '75
Gold Wing will be passed on to my boys sometime in the future.
All five of my boys, Charles IV age 20, Daniel is 19, Eric 17 and
Matt 16 years old ride dirt bikes, MOTORCYCLING RUNS IN OUR BLOOD.
I look forward to being a CWC member and meeting other members. |
