He is the proud owner of an immaculate GL1000, GL1200 outfit and a GL1500 SE (with probably the most accessories in Australia.) It is with my pleasure to introduce to you, Bruce Dugan and allow him to tell his story and love for Gold Wings.

Hello to all CWC Members,

It was certainly great to meet Carl and his wife Judy at our AGM in Harvey Bay, Qld. While it is not nearly as large a gathering as you have over there, we still manage to have a great time and enjoy each other’s company. I rode my 1500SE (1994 Teal) pulling a large campervan to Harvey Bay and back and experienced all types of weather from cold, windy and wet to pleasant sunny days. Still is was worth it! I covered about 2500 kms all told and the Wing went beautifully. My friend Kevin Woodward (President of the Australia Goldwing Assoc. Inc.) went by car and took my 1975 GL1000 by trailer.

About five years ago my life took a twist. At this time Hilton Steel from Hartford, WI (an Aussie living and working in USA) came into my life - he brought to Australia a 1994 Teal 1500 SE and used it while on holiday here, where I came across him and his beautiful bike and we became best of friends. I visited him in Wisconsin when I attended the Oshkosh air show a couple of years back - on that visit I was made most welcome by members of the GWRRA chapter.

I have now become a GOLD WING NUT and am the present Vice President of the Australia Goldwing Assoc., owning a 1995 GL1500 SE (to replace the original one which I bought from Hilton. The original was written off in a traffic accident in outback Australia, while Pamela and I were riding to the AGM in Adelaide a couple of years ago.

My present bike has many extras, which my friend Hilton has bought in USA and another friend, Mal Allen has installed.

I also own a GL1200 1985 with local-made sidecar, this unit is a stunner and always causes comments wherever it goes. Of course, I also have a very fine original example of the 1975 GL1000 which I had the pleasure of showing to Carl when he was here.

Other items which may be of interest; I have a pharmacy in Blacktown (Western suburb of Sydney) where I have been for 40 years. I have four children and almost eight grandchildren. We spend our weekends on our family farm 170 kms South of Sydney, here we relax after working in the city. We have a Cessna 150 aircraft based there which I have owned since 1968 and over the years we have done a lot of flying! It is a great way to see this vast land.

The last few years have been more devoted to my Goldwing enjoyment, and I love the machines and the companionship of other Goldwing owners. It is impossible to put into words the pleasure we have had.

A Goldwing in Australia costs approx. $30,000.00 and it is difficult to obtain part/extras, especially for earlier models, and this is where Hilton Steel has been invaluable to our local chapters.

I hope to come to the USA next year. As retirement is looming, Hilton is researching the RV’s..... I may import one as there is nothing to compare with them in Australia. You certainly live in a great country.

Kind regards and best wishes to all members of the Classic Wing Club (when I come over, I hope to visit Carl and attend a meeting)
