Memories Made On The Road

In 1975, the cycle press was all excited about the new water cooled, shaft driven 1000 cc machine coming from Honda. 1, too, was excited. I managed to purchase the third Wing sold by the dealer in Bloomington, IN and on July 4 was the proud ownei- of a new Blue GL1000. Three weeks later I was on my way to California on it. Well, that was 22 years ago, and I have many memorable aides that my wife and I shared on the '75 Wing. We've been able to ride this trusty steed in 38 of our states, four provinces of Canada, and a touch of Mexico. I have been from Digby, Nova Scotia to Ensenada, Mexico, and circled Lake Superior. Having lost my wife in 1990 to cancer, my daughter Ashley Claire, now shares in making memories with me on the Wing. Probably one of the most recent high points of my life was on Ashley Claire's 13th birthday, June 20, two summers ago. We departed on the trusty steed for Wing Ding 95 in Asheville, NC; my daughter's first major ride and my satisfaction at having an original Wing at Wing Ding among 20th Anniversary Editions. I entered one of the bike shows and with no real planning was awarded a third place award. Ashley and I had a great week together covering over 1000 miles, and a time, I hope, she will look back at soi-neday and really treaSLire. Perhaps one day my grandchildren can hear how their Mom and Grandpa took off on their great motorcycle adventure.
